ReST (elidek covid)

The proposal has as its starting point the changes in present-time soundscape since the onset and during the COVID-19 pandemic, with special focus on the rest of human activity and how the absence of it has created a new awareness on our soundscapes and a kind of acoustic rest in the urban soundscape. Using an innovative synergetic methodology that combines live soundscapes, listening workshops and smart city tools to research case study sites across the city centre of Chania, ReST seeks to define what acoustic rest is, what are its acoustic and psychoacoustic characteristics and how they can be implemented for the creation of ARMaLiTo (Αcoustic Rest Machine Listening Tools), two smart city soundscape tools for scalable local lockdown prediction and recommendation.
