Parthenon Alive – Old Acropolis Museum

Digital Media Lab, School of Architecture, Technical University of Crete has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Culture to undertake a project of historic significance: the modernization and enhancement of the Old Acropolis Museum through innovative digital technologies.

This is more than a museum exhibit —it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring history to life through immersive storytelling, interactive installations, and cutting-edge digital experiences. Visitors are invited to step inside an immersive encounter with history in motion. The Parthenon stands as an enduring testament to democracy — an architectural and artistic symbol where history, ideals and citizens converge. Standing in the shadow of the Parthenon, the museum will become a space for Reflection, Engagement & Transformation, inviting visitors to step into the heart of ancient Athens, witness its evolution before their eyes—and participate in it.

This ambitious project unites a multidisciplinary team of architects, archaeologists, 3D modelers, artists, computer engineers, animators, directors, and historians—all working together to create an unparalleled visitor experience by leveraging the latest digital technologies, including virtual and augmented reality, advanced 3D scanning and animation techniques, and artificial intelligence.

Through this project, we aim to transform the museum into a dialogue across generations, an invitation to engage with democracy as a living, breathing entity.

Stay tuned as we embark on this incredible journey!
