Horizon Europe 6G-HOLONET: Digital Culture Meets 6G
We are proud to announce the launch of 6G-HOLONET, a major #HorizonEurope SNS project advancing immersive media through #6Gtechnology.
The Digital Media Lab at the Πολυτεχνείο Κρήτης / Technical University of Crete joins one of the most ambitious European consortia in immersive media and 6G innovation, bringing together key industry players, leading research organisations, innovative SMEs, and academic institutions from the UK, Greece, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, and Israel to shape the future of immersive communication.
Together, we explore how AI-native 6G infrastructures can transform immersive production, live entertainment, and digital cultural heritage.
Our main focus is #XR #opera in collaboration with the Greek National Opera – Εθνική Λυρική Σκηνή, reimagining opera as an intelligent, immersive, and interactive experience. By combining XR, volumetric media, edge-assisted rendering, and AI-driven media enhancement, we will explore:
– Boundless digital scenography beyond physical stage constraints
– Adaptive translations and dramaturgical layers
– Personalized and interactive audience experiences
– Real-time accessibility by design
– Sustainable, scalable digital production models
In parallel, we will contribute to #VirtualExhibitions linking multiple European museums into shared immersive experiences, expanding access to cultural heritage beyond physical boundaries through AI-enhanced, network-native media technologies.
This is not simply a technology deployment. It is a step toward redefining digital culture through innovative use of new media and artificial intelligence.
