Sound and Light at Acropolis

Urban Regeneration of the Pnyx Hill for the Revival of the “Sound and Light” Show at the Acropolis

The Digital Media Lab (DmLab) of the School of Architecture at the Technical University of Crete has undertaken the project of urban regeneration, architectural design and technological study of the hill of Pnyka, for the revival of the iconic “Sound and Light” show. In a strategic partnership with the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, this research project aims to create a) the design of the spectator viewing area, integrating seating arrangements where the audience can experience the show through a highly respectful intervention in Pnykas’ hill, b) a multi-sensory environment that combines physical and digital elements, offering an immersive, “live” narration of the hill.  The core design principle is absolute reversibility: the new show will be hosted in ephemeral, temporary installations that harmonize perfectly with the monumental landscape, leaving zero permanent footprint on the archaeological site.
